I have read a lot about how Facebook Advertising could save you money especially for small businesses.I have a small business and I tried to start an Ads Campaign on Facebook.
The money I spent was far more than the sells I made.I was at a loss of 80%.
For sure I increased my likes and engagement with people on Facebook but this did not result in direct sells.

Firstly, decide what your objectives are with advertising: if it is to produce direct sales, then use a different vehicle. (Example: Print a coupon at a festival event where you are in attendence with a booth.) Other objectives should be more long term. (Example: if your business is on the web, such as FB, you need to increase your search engine optimization [SEO] ranking and this occurs with more clicks and recent clicks.)
Second: budget what you want to spend on each objective above.
I am not an expert but this seems commn sense to me!
